Summary

Fraunhofer HHI's VVdeC video decoder, before version 3.2.1, contains a memory-corruption bug that a local attacker can trigger without logging in, though it requires a user to take an action such as opening a crafted VVC bitstream. Successful exploitation can crash the decoder or corrupt heap memory when multithreaded decoding is used.

Read the original description

Fraunhofer HHI VVdeC before 3.2.1 contains a heap use-after-free vulnerability that allows attackers to corrupt memory by redefining an ALF adaptation parameter set id still referenced by slices. Attackers can supply a crafted VVC bitstream that, with multithreaded decoding, makes worker threads dereference freed APS objects in CABACReader::readAlf() and AdaptiveLoopFilter::reconstructCoeff(), causing crashes or heap corruption.

Questions about CVE-2026-124307

Is CVE-2026-124307 being exploited?

It is not in CISA's Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog, and CISA's SSVC assessment does not mark exploitation as active. That does not mean it has not been attacked: vendors and researchers can report attacks before CISA lists them. No public exploit code is tracked.Source: cve.now feed data
