Summary
A flaw was found in Ansible Operator Plugins. A low-privileged Kubernetes user can exploit a Jinja2 template injection vulnerability by crafting malicious custom resource (CR) specification values. These values are processed by Ansible without proper sanitization, allowing embedded Jinja2 expressions to be executed within the operator pod. This can lead to arbitrary code execution and privilege escalation, granting the attacker control over the operator's service account with cluster-wide permissions.

Questions about CVE-2026-92982
What does this mean?
The bug allows arbitrary code execution through Jinja2 template injection in the affected operator. Template input that is not properly handled lets code run in the operator.Source: access.redhat.com
Am I affected, and how do I check?
Red Hat lists Ansible Automation Platform 2.6 and 2.7, OpenShift Container Platform 4 and 5, OpenShift Virtualization 4, OpenStack Platform 16.2, 17.1 and 18.0, and other products. The facts give no version ranges, so compare the installed product and version with the product list in Red Hat's advisory.Source: access.redhat.com
What should I do about it?
The only fix listed is Kiali 2.27.4 for Red Hat OpenShift Service Mesh 3.4. The facts give no fixed version for the other listed products, so check Red Hat's advisory for their updates.Source: access.redhat.com
Is it being exploited?
It is not in CISA's Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog, and CISA's SSVC assessment does not mark exploitation as active. That does not mean it has not been attacked: vendors and researchers can report attacks before CISA lists them. No public exploit code is tracked.Source: cve.now feed data
