Summary
dcmjs, a JavaScript library for manipulating DICOM medical imaging files, fails to validate numeric DS and IS fields, so an attacker can remotely, without logging in or user interaction, supply values that parse to infinity, NaN, or out-of-range numbers. Applications that trust these values can produce incorrect calculations or disrupted processing in areas such as spatial geometry, display windowing, dose scaling, and volume reconstruction.
Read the original description
dcmjs is a JavaScript implementation of DICOM manipulation. Prior to 0.52.0, the DecimalString and IntegerString implementations in src/ValueRepresentation.js sanitize text with a permissive regular expression and pass the result to JavaScript's Number constructor without validating finiteness or the DICOM value-representation rules. Scientific notation overflow in a DS or IS field can produce positive or negative Infinity, while stripping alphabetic characters from signed infinity text can leave a sign-only string that converts to NaN. IntegerString also accepts exponent notation and values outside the DICOM signed 32-bit IS range. Applications that trust these parsed values can propagate invalid numbers into spatial geometry, display windowing, dose scaling, frame counts, rescaling, or volume reconstruction, causing incorrect calculations or disrupted processing. This issue is fixed in version 0.52.0.

Questions about CVE-2026-46350
Is CVE-2026-46350 being exploited?
It is not in CISA's Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog, and CISA's SSVC assessment does not mark exploitation as active. That does not mean it has not been attacked: vendors and researchers can report attacks before CISA lists them. No public exploit code is tracked.Source: cve.now feed data
What does this mean?
Malformed DS or IS input can produce Infinity, NaN, or out-of-range integers. These values can spread through downstream arithmetic, causing incorrect calculations or disrupted processing.Source: github.com
Which versions are affected by CVE-2026-46350?
dcmjs: before 0.52.0. dcmjs (npm): before 0.52.0.Source: cve.now feed data
Am I affected, and how do I check?
dcmjs versions before 0.52.0 are affected. The issue applies to Node.js or browser applications that parse DICOM via dcmjs, and the installed dcmjs version can be checked in the project's dependency list.Source: github.com
How do I fix CVE-2026-46350?
Upgrade dcmjs to 0.52.0 or later, which was released on 2026-05-19 with the fix.Source: github.com
