Summary
Craft CMS, in affected 4.x and 5.x releases before the fixed builds, contains an SQL injection flaw in its element search endpoint that can be reached remotely, without logging in. An attacker can read and write the database, including changing user records to gain administrator access.
Read the original description
Craft CMS 4.0.0 before 4.18.9 and 5.0.0 before 5.11.2 contains an unauthenticated SQL injection vulnerability in the element search endpoint because the attribute parameter is concatenated into the query unsanitized and emulated PDO prepares allow stacked statements. Remote attackers can read and write the database, setting the admin flag or overwriting password hashes in the users table to gain administrator access.

Questions about CVE-2026-123488
Is CVE-2026-123488 being exploited?
It is not in CISA's Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog, and CISA's SSVC assessment does not mark exploitation as active. That does not mean it has not been attacked: vendors and researchers can report attacks before CISA lists them. No public exploit code is tracked.Source: cve.now feed data
What does this mean?
The element search endpoint passes the attribute parameter into a database query. Because PDO runs with emulated prepares, stacked SQL statements execute, which is an unauthenticated SQL injection. The advisory says it gives read and write access to the application database, including setting the admin flag or overwriting password hashes to gain administrator access.Source: vulncheck.com

cms: from 4.0.0 before 4.18.9. cms: from 5.0.0 before 5.11.2.Source: cve.now feed data
Am I affected, and how do I check?
Craft CMS 4.0.0 before 4.18.9 and 5.0.0 before 5.11.2, installed via Composer as craftcms/cms. To check the installed version, look at the craftcms/cms entry in composer.lock.Source: vulncheck.com
How do I fix CVE-2026-123488?
Upgrade to 4.18.9 on the 4.x line or to 5.11.2 on the 5.x line. The facts give no workaround, so the upgrade is the listed fix.Source: vulncheck.com
