Summary

The Ziroom ZHOME A0101 smart home device's Lua handler component, specifically its zrUsb.lua controller, contains a flaw that allows an attacker to inject and run arbitrary code remotely. Successful exploitation could give an attacker control over the affected device.

Read the original description

A flaw has been found in Ziroom ZHOME A0101 1.0.1.0 Build 202004151405. This issue affects the function loadstring of the file usr/lib/lua/luci/controller/api/zrUsb.lua of the component Lua Handler. This manipulation causes code injection. Remote exploitation of the attack is possible. The exploit has been published and may be used. The vendor was contacted early about this disclosure but did not respond in any way.

What to do

  • Check whether your setup matches what the bug needs.

Affects Ziroom ZHOME-A0101 firmware 1.0.1.0, Build 202004151405. Attacker must be able to control the content of /tmp/run/usb_list_result or /tmp/run/old_usb_list_result. The affected API requires authenticated root access.
  • Workaround: The checked facts give no workaround or fix. Until one is available, limiting access to the device's web management interface and the root-level API it exposes reduces the exposure, since the attack depends on authenticated root access and control of the USB result files.

FAQ

Questions about CVE-2026-121260

Is CVE-2026-121260 being exploited?

It is not in CISA's Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog, and CISA's SSVC assessment does not mark exploitation as active. That does not mean it has not been attacked: vendors and researchers can report attacks before CISA lists them. CISA's SSVC assessment notes a proof of concept exists. No public exploit code is tracked.Source: cve.now feed data

What does this mean?

The zrUsb.lua script passes content from USB result files to Lua's loadstring function, so text in those files can be run as Lua code. If an attacker can write to those files, the endpoint can execute arbitrary Lua code, which can call os.execute() and run system commands in the web management context.Source: github.com

Which versions are affected by CVE-2026-121260?

ZHOME A0101: version 1.0.1.0 Build 202004151405.Source: cve.now feed data

Am I affected, and how do I check?

The facts list Ziroom ZHOME-A0101 firmware 1.0.1.0, Build 202004151405 (shown as 'Firmware Version: 1.0.1.0, Build 202004151405'). The attack needs write control over /tmp/run/usb_list_result or /tmp/run/old_usb_list_result, and the affected API requires authenticated root access. To check a device's firmware version, look at the firmware version shown in the device's web management interface.Source: github.com

How do I fix CVE-2026-121260?

No fixed version is listed in the checked facts, so no upgrade target can be confirmed from them. Check the vendor's site for a firmware update that addresses this issue.Source: github.com

What if there's no patch?

The checked facts give no workaround or fix. Until one is available, limiting access to the device's web management interface and the root-level API it exposes reduces the exposure, since the attack depends on authenticated root access and control of the USB result files.Source: github.com
