FAQ

Questions about CVE-2026-119553

What does this mean?

The Blackboard question import joins image src paths from the imported file onto the extract directory without restricting them to that directory. A teacher can therefore make the import copy files that the PHP user can read, such as config.php, into their draft area and then retrieve them.Source: abraxaslabs.tech

Am I affected, and how do I check?

The facts list affected ranges of 4.5 through 4.5.15, 5.0.0 through 5.0.11, 5.1.0 through 5.1.8, and 5.2.0 through 5.2.4, and the example checked was Moodle 5.2.3 (tag v5.2.3). The affected feature is the Blackboard question import in the question bank and lessons. To check a site, compare the version under Site administration > Notifications, and see whether teachers use Blackboard import.Source: abraxaslabs.tech

What should I do about it?

The facts do not name a fixed version, so no upgrade target can be given from them. Check the Moodle security announcement for a fixed release before changing anything.Source: abraxaslabs.tech

Is it being exploited?

It is not in CISA's Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog, and CISA's SSVC assessment does not mark exploitation as active. That does not mean it has not been attacked: vendors and researchers can report attacks before CISA lists them. No public exploit code is tracked.Source: cve.now feed data

What if there's no patch?

The facts give no workaround. Until a fix is available, the only step the facts support is limiting use of the affected feature, which is the Blackboard question import in the question bank and lessons.Source: abraxaslabs.tech
