Summary

OpenAirInterface's 5G core Access and Mobility Management Function (AMF) is affected, which handles device registration and mobility in 5G networks. An unauthenticated remote attacker can send specially crafted registration messages that crash the AMF process, causing a denial of service.

Read the original description

An integer underflow vulnerability in the NAS decoder of OpenAirInterface (OAI) CN5G AMF v2.2.1 allows an unauthenticated remote attacker to cause a denial of service (DoS) via crafted NAS Registration Requests containing a truncated SUCI in the 5GS Mobile Identity IE. Insufficient length validation in the DecodeSuci() function results in an out-of-bounds heap read, causing the AMF process to crash.

FAQ

Questions about CVE-2026-117068

What does this mean?

An integer underflow in the AMF NAS decoder is triggered by a malformed NAS Registration Request that carries a truncated SUCI. The AMF process crashes, causing a denial of service.Source: gist.github.com

Am I affected, and how do I check?

The listed affected product is OpenAirInterface Core Network (OAI CN5G AMF) v2.2.1. The issue involves malformed NAS Registration Requests with a truncated SUCI in the 5GS Mobile Identity IE. To check a deployment, confirm which AMF version is in use.Source: gist.github.com

What should I do about it?

The checked facts do not name a fixed version, so no upgrade target can be given from them. Check the vendor's advisory for a fix.Source: gist.github.com

Is it being exploited?

It is not in CISA's Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog, and CISA's SSVC assessment does not mark exploitation as active. That does not mean it has not been attacked: vendors and researchers can report attacks before CISA lists them. No public exploit code is tracked.Source: cve.now feed data

What if there's no patch?
