Summary
The OpenAirInterface Core Network software, specifically its 5G Unified Data Management (UDM) component, is affected through its authentication data generation endpoint. An unauthenticated attacker who can reach the service interface and knows a valid subscriber identifier could crash the UDM process by sending oversized input, which disrupts the network's authentication service.
Read the original description
OpenAirInterface Core Network v2.2.1 has a stack-based buffer overflow vulnerability in the OAI CN5G UDM Nudm_UEAU Generate Authentication Data endpoint. The UDM passes attacker-controlled resynchronizationInfo.rand and auts values to conv::hex_str_to_uint8(), which converts arbitrary-length hex strings into fixed-size stack buffers without validating the destination size. An unauthenticated attacker with access to the SBI interface and a valid SUPI can submit an oversized value to overwrite adjacent stack memory, corrupt the stack canary, and terminate the UDM process.
What to do
Workaround: The checked facts list no workaround. Because the issue requires SBI access and a valid SUPI, limiting who can reach the SBI interface would narrow the exposure until a fix is available.

Questions about CVE-2026-106808
What does this mean?
A stack-based buffer overflow in the UDM's Nudm_UEAU Generate Authentication handling lets oversized hexadecimal values corrupt the stack. The corruption crashes the UDM process, causing a denial of service.Source: gist.github.com
What should I do about it?
The checked facts do not name a fixed version or an upgrade target. Check the OpenAirInterface project's advisory or release notes for a patched release.Source: gist.github.com
Is it being exploited?
It is not in CISA's Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog, and CISA's SSVC assessment does not mark exploitation as active. That does not mean it has not been attacked: vendors and researchers can report attacks before CISA lists them. CISA's SSVC assessment notes a proof of concept exists. No public exploit code is tracked.Source: cve.now feed data
What if there's no patch?
The checked facts list no workaround. Because the issue requires SBI access and a valid SUPI, limiting who can reach the SBI interface would narrow the exposure until a fix is available.Source: gist.github.com
