Summary
Affected: MariaDB server, the community fork of MySQL. An authenticated database user can exploit a flaw in how ALTER TABLE ... CONVERT ... PARTITION builds file paths, reaching table files they are not authorized to access remotely, with low privileges, and with a user action needed. The result is unauthorized reading or modification of tables.

Read the original description
MariaDB server is a community developed fork of MySQL server. From 10.11.1 until 10.11.19, 11.4.13, 11.8.9, 12.3.3, and 13.0.2, ALTER TABLE ... CONVERT ... PARTITION does not apply filename encoding to user-specified partition names before using them in filesystem path construction. An authenticated database user can use a partition name requiring filename escaping to make the conversion operate on table files the user is not authorized to access, allowing unauthorized table reads or modifications. This issue is fixed in versions 10.11.19, 11.4.13, 11.8.9, 12.3.3, and 13.0.2.

Questions about CVE-2026-102523
Is CVE-2026-102523 being exploited?
It is not in CISA's Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog, and CISA's SSVC assessment does not mark exploitation as active. That does not mean it has not been attacked: vendors and researchers can report attacks before CISA lists them. No public exploit code is tracked.Source: cve.now feed data
What does this mean?
An ALTER TABLE ... CONVERT PARTITION statement that uses a partition name needing filename escaping, such as one containing a hyphen, can let a user read or modify tables they would normally have no access to. The impact is an authorization bypass on table access.Source: github.com, jira.mariadb.org
Which versions are affected by CVE-2026-102523?
server: from 10.11.1 before 10.11.19; from 11.4.1 before 11.4.13; from 11.8.1 before 11.8.9; from 12.3.1 before 12.3.3; from 13.0.1 before 13.0.2.Source: cve.now feed data
Am I affected, and how do I check?
MariaDB server versions 10.11.1 through 10.11.18, 11.4.1 through 11.4.12, 11.8.1 through 11.8.8, 12.3.1 through 12.3.2, and 13.0.1 are affected. The bug only matters when partitioned tables are converted with a partition name that requires filename escaping; check your version with SELECT VERSION() and whether partitioning is in use.Source: github.com, jira.mariadb.org
How do I fix CVE-2026-102523?
Upgrade to the fixed release for your branch: 10.11.19, 11.4.13, 11.8.9, 12.3.3, or 13.0.2. As a workaround, partition support can be disabled with --skip-plugin-partition.Source: github.com, jira.mariadb.org
