net/smc: fix UAF on smcsk after smc_listen_out()
Linux kernel versions from 4.18.0 up to the fixed releases 6.6.103, 6.12.44 and 6.16.4 are in scope, for applications that close an accepted SMC socket right after accept(). No vendor rating is given. Fixed in those releases.

Summary
The Linux kernel's SMC (Shared Memory Communications) networking subsystem, specifically its listen handling in net/smc, is affected. The flaw is a use-after-free on the SMC socket after listen processing completes, which can cause a kernel crash (oops) and potentially memory corruption.

Therefore, if the application closes the socket immediately after accept, newclcsock->sk can be NULL. A possible execution order could be as follows: smc_listen_work | userspace ----------------------------------------------------------------- lock_sock(sk) | smc_listen_out_connected() | | \- smc_listen_out | | | \- release_sock | | |- sk->sk_data_ready() | | fd = accept(); | close(fd); | \- socket->sk = NULL; /* newclcsock->sk is NULL now */ SMC_STAT_SERV_SUCC_INC(sock_net(newclcsock->sk)) Since smc_listen_out_connected() will not fail, simply swapping the order of the code can easily fix this issue.

Questions about CVE-2025-38734
What does this mean?
The SMC listen path can use a socket after it has been freed when an application closes the accepted socket immediately after accept(). This can cause a kernel NULL pointer dereference and crash.Source: git.kernel.org
Am I affected, and how do I check?
Affected ranges are Linux kernel 4.18.0 before 6.6.103, 6.7.0 before 6.12.44, and 6.13.0 before 6.16.4. Check the running kernel version with uname -r, and note that the trigger is an application closing the accepted socket immediately after accept().Source: git.kernel.org
What should I do about it?
Upgrade to a kernel release that includes the fix: 6.6.103, 6.12.44, or 6.16.4, or a later release in the same series.Source: git.kernel.org
Is it being exploited?
It is not in CISA's Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog, and CISA's SSVC assessment does not mark exploitation as active. That does not mean it has not been attacked: vendors and researchers can report attacks before CISA lists them. No public exploit code is tracked.Source: cve.now feed data
