Summary

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: eth: bnxt: fix truesize for mb-xdp-pass case When mb-xdp is set and return is XDP_PASS, packet is converted from xdp_buff to sk_buff with xdp_update_skb_shared_info() in bnxt_xdp_build_skb(). bnxt_xdp_build_skb() passes incorrect truesize argument to xdp_update_skb_shared_info(). The truesize is calculated as BNXT_RX_PAGE_SIZE * sinfo->nr_frags but the skb_shared_info was wiped by napi_build_skb() before. So it stores sinfo->nr_frags before bnxt_xdp_build_skb() and use it instead of getting skb_shared_info from xdp_get_shared_info_from_buff(). FAQ

Questions about CVE-2025-21961

What does this mean?

The bug is in how the bnxt network driver sets the truesize value, which is the memory accounting size for a packet, when multi-buffer XDP is enabled and the XDP program returns XDP_PASS. The fix corrects that value for this case.Source: git.kernel.org

Am I affected, and how do I check?

Kernels from 5.19.0 up to 6.6.160, from 6.7.0 up to 6.12.20, and from 6.13.0 up to 6.13.8 are listed as affected. The setup involves a bnxt interface with multi-buffer XDP set, an XDP program attached (such as xdp_pass.o), and the MTU set to 9000. To check, run uname -r for the kernel version and ip link show on the interface to see whether an XDP program is attached.Source: git.kernel.org

What should I do about it?

Update the kernel to 6.6.160 or later in the 6.6 series, 6.12.20 or later in the 6.12 series, or 6.13.8 or later in the 6.13 series. Kernels in the 6.7 to 6.11 range have no listed fixed version in these facts.Source: git.kernel.org

Is it being exploited?

It is not in CISA's Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog, and CISA's SSVC assessment does not mark exploitation as active. That does not mean it has not been attacked: vendors and researchers can report attacks before CISA lists them. No public exploit code is tracked.Source: cve.now feed data
