Summary
Netpbm, a widely used open-source collection of command-line tools for converting and manipulating image files, is affected in its winicontopam utility, which converts Windows icon and cursor files. A specially crafted ICO or CUR file with oversized dimensions can corrupt memory, potentially causing the program to crash or allowing an attacker to run arbitrary code.
Read the original description
Netpbm before 10.86.51, 11.02.30, and 11.15.08 contains an integer overflow vulnerability in winicontopam that allows attackers to corrupt heap memory via oversized ICO/CUR dimensions. Attackers can supply a crafted icon file with width or height above 32767, wrapping int16_t loop counters into negative row buffer indices to cause crashes or potential code execution.

Questions about CVE-2026-120432
What does this mean?
An arithmetic overflow in winicontopam, the Netpbm tool that converts Windows icons to PAM, can cause arbitrary memory access and infinite loops when the tool processes large images.Source: svn.code.sf.net
Am I affected, and how do I check?
Netpbm versions from 10.63 up to, but not including, 10.86.51 in the 10.x line, from 11.0 up to 11.02.30, and from 11.03 up to 11.15.08. The bug is triggered only by large images processed by winicontopam. To check an installed copy, compare its Netpbm version number against these ranges.Source: svn.code.sf.net
What should I do about it?
Upgrade to the fixed release for the installed branch: 10.86.51, 11.02.30, or 11.15.08. The advisory's listed fix version is 11.02.30.Source: svn.code.sf.net
Is it being exploited?
It is not in CISA's Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog, and CISA's SSVC assessment does not mark exploitation as active. That does not mean it has not been attacked: vendors and researchers can report attacks before CISA lists them. No public exploit code is tracked.Source: cve.now feed data
