Summary
Pillow, the Python imaging library, is affected by this vulnerability. An attacker can supply a specially crafted image file, such as a BLP image, that causes the library to allocate excessive memory or take an extremely long time to process, resulting in a denial of service.
Summarized by anthropic/claude-haiku-5.5. Verify details against the original sources.
Read the original description
Impact Pillow before 8.1.1 allows attackers to cause a denial of service (memory consumption) because the reported size of a contained image is not properly checked for a BLP container, and thus an attempted memory allocation can be very large. Patches An issue was discovered in Pillow before 6.2.0. When reading specially crafted invalid image files, the library can either allocate very large amounts of memory or take an extremely long period of time to process the image. Workarounds An issue was discovered in Pillow before 6.2.0. When reading specially crafted invalid image files, the library can either allocate very large amounts of memory or take an extremely long period of time to process the image.
