Summary
SOEM (Simple Open EtherCAT Master), an open-source EtherCAT master library used in industrial automation and control systems, is affected by this vulnerability. A malicious EtherCAT device can send more configuration blocks than the software expects, causing memory corruption that may crash the application or disrupt its later operations.
Summarized by anthropic/claude-haiku-5.5. Verify details against the original sources.
Read the original description
SOEM version 2.0.0 and earlier contains a vulnerability during device configuration where a malicious device can cause memory corruption. The software writes configuration data to a fixed-size array without checking if the array index exceeds its maximum size of EC_MAXFMMU entries. A device presenting more than EC_MAXFMMU configuration blocks can force writes beyond the array boundary, corrupting adjacent memory structures and potentially disrupting subsequent operations.
