Summary
openEQUELLA versions prior to 2026.1 are affected. A user with permission to create items can submit specially crafted XML to the item API, causing the server to read arbitrary files it can access and make outbound requests to attacker-chosen addresses, which could expose sensitive data such as local files and cloud instance metadata.
Summarized by anthropic/claude-haiku-5.5. Verify details against the original sources.
Read the original description
In openEQUELLA before 2026.1, the XML parser used for item metadata does not disable external entity resolution. A user permitted to create items (CREATE_ITEM) can submit crafted XML to POST /api/item and cause the server to read arbitrary files accessible to the openEQUELLA service, or make requests to attacker-specified locations (SSRF), including cloud instance metadata services.
